Aoife took the lead role in video editing while Niamh brought our documentation together:
Today we filmed the final shots we needed for our news report. We met up at 2 o’clock after class. The shot that was scheduled to shoot next was Stephie driving up towards us and parking and then Niamh McHugh walking over to greet her. We shot this outside the car park of Carrolls and we had to film this twice to make sure we were satisfied with the shoot.
The next shot was of Niamh and Aoife walking up towards the camera standing a little apart. We got this in one shot. The shot was of Aoife looking at Niamh who was not in shot been interviewed. After this shot was taken the next shot that was scheduled was Niamh interviewing Stephie.
When we got this shot, we wanted to get the shot of Niamh finishing off the news report but we decided to film her outside the entrance of the college again as we noticed later on that the original shot that it would difficult to edit.
We decided to film this shot first so we went to the entrance of the college and Niamh stood in the same position as yesterday. We have taken a number of these shots to make sure that the audio levels were good.
The final shot we got was of Niamh in the car park concluding the news report. We had take a number of shots until we were happy.
The we went back to the college and put the rest of the footage onto Aidans laptop. After filming our shoot we began editing the the news report with Aoife taken the role as lead editor. The organisation of the shooting schedule and the precision of the shots allowed Aoife to edit efficiently.
Today we began filming our news report. We met in Starbucks at 10 this morning to get started. Firstly, we went through the shooting schedule to see what shots we had to shoot. We had scheduled to shoot Niamh McHugh as our news reporter outside the college so we decided the best place to set -up this shot was outside the entrance of college with the iconic wind turbine and the Dundalk college sign. Niamh was positioned in shot just beside the sign Dundalk Institute of Technology. Aidan also got the iconic wind turbine in the background of the shot, we will use as an element to link other shots. We filmed this a number of times until we were satisfied with the shot. The next shot that was scheduled was the car park.
Aidan set up the camera in the car park outside Carrolls while Niamh took a few photographs. We waited for a few minutes after setting up to get a shot of a car driving towards us. After getting a shot of the car park the next shot that was scheduled was to get a shot of the traffic outside of the college. Again, we made our way outside the entrance of the college to get a good shot of the traffic driving. We set – up the camera and took a few shots of the traffic as we were having problems trying to get a number of cars driving by while we were filming. After a couple of shots we were finally satisfied with the shot and head back to the college. We then found a room and we put the footage files on Aidan’s laptop to make sure we were happy with the shots we had taken so far. After this, it was 12 and decided to take a break.
We met up again at half 12 to begin filming the green screening. We got Niamh Burke as a news anchor. We found a free lecture room and set up our green screening. This took around 30 minutes to set up. After setting up Aidan started to film a few shots of Niamh Burke until we were satisfied with the shot. We then took down the green screen and filmed Niamh Burke without it just incase the green screening won’t work out for us in editing. Again, we filmed a couple of shots of Niamh Burke until we were satisfied with the shot. After this, we took the equipment as this was the last shot of the day. The footage was put on Aidan’s laptop.
Tomorrow we will film the final scenes of Aoife and Stephie as our two interviewees and then we will be ready to edit the footage.
